Psalm 80:1-2 NIVUK
1 Hear us, Shepherd of Israel,
you who lead Joseph like a flock.
You who sit enthroned between the cherubim,
shine forth 2 before Ephraim, Benjamin and Manasseh.
Awaken your might;
come and save us.
According to modern culture, this is a contradiction. How can a great and mighty leader also be a shepherd, one who cares for and serves their people? To be powerful you have to be strong and ambitious, not caring and humble. And yet, this is the very heart of God’s power. He may sit between the cherubim, but his power is expressed in the way he tends to us, using his might not to secure or assert his status, but to bring salvation.
Shepherd King, help me to use what power and position I have for the benefit of others, not myself.
