Acts 20:22-24 NIVUK
22 ‘And now, compelled by the Spirit, I am going to Jerusalem, not knowing what will happen to me there. 23 I only know that in every city the Holy Spirit warns me that prison and hardships are facing me. 24 However, I consider my life worth nothing to me; my only aim is to finish the race and complete the task the Lord Jesus has given me – the task of testifying to the good news of God’s grace.
Today’s passage is a snippet from Paul’s farewell to the church at Ephesus. It highlights clearly two significant driving forces in his life: 1) the desire to follow the guidance of the Spirit, and 2) the surrendering of his life to Christ’s service, come what may. As a comfortable Christian in the Western world today, I find this focused commitment challenging.
Father, forgive me my lazy faith and service, stir me in my commitment to you,
