Acts 17:16-17 NIVUK
16 While Paul was waiting for them in Athens, he was greatly distressed to see that the city was full of idols. 17 So he reasoned in the synagogue with both Jews and God-fearing Greeks, as well as in the market-place day by day with those who happened to be there.
Paul had a simple evangelistic tactic. He didn’t spend most of his time putting on big events, although he did prove to be a big draw from time to time, nor did he focus on getting people into church. It would seem that the heart of his evangelism was simply going to where people were and talking to them about Jesus – in Athens this was the synagogue and the marketplace. Where might we find people today? Are we ready to ‘reason with them’?
Father, help us to engage with the people around us through the help of your Spirit, so we might share our experiences of Jesus with them.
