Acts 4:13-14 NIVUK
13 When they saw the courage of Peter and John and realized that they were unschooled, ordinary men, they were astonished and they took note that these men had been with Jesus.

The media is always telling us either explicitly or implicitly that to be successful or fulfilled we need to change and match some idealised vision of humanity, some super-attractive, talented, popular or rich ‘photoshopped’ figure. This pressure to conform to an impossible image causes great sense of unease and dissatisfaction. It can feel the same in the Christian world as well sometimes, to be a successful Christian you should be a charismatic preacher and evangelist who knows all the modern songs and jargon. The releasing truth is that God doesn’t see it like that. He wants us for who we are – just like Peter and John. All he looks for are ordinary people who are willing to follow him and let him work through their lives by his Spirit. It is when we do this, rather than match up to some impossible ideal, that people sit up and notice.

Thank you Lord that you want me for who I am. Help me to follow you today as myself and to be open to what you want to do.
