Mark 13:1-2
1 As Jesus was leaving the temple, one of his disciples said to him, ‘Look, Teacher! What massive stones! What magnificent buildings!’
2 ‘Do you see all these great buildings?’ replied Jesus. ‘Not one stone here will be left on another; every one will be thrown down.’

As the disciples admire the Temple and the buildings around it, Jesus looks forward, seeing its destruction when the Romans sack Jerusalem in 70AD and beyond to the end of the age and his future return. Not all things that seem permanent and powerful are so. The disciples might be in awe of the great architecture, but Jesus is reminding them and us to prioritise those things of lasting value and meaning.

Father it wasn’t the stones that made the Temple great but your Presence in it. Help us to prioritise you and your will in our actions, thoughts and speech today.
