27 Do not withhold good from those to whom it is due,
when it is in your power to act.
28 Do not say to your neighbour,
‘Come back tomorrow and I’ll give it to you’–
when you already have it with you.
The procrastinator’s motto: ‘Why do today what you can put off until tomorrow!’
There are always numerous reasons we can come up with for not looking out for others, obstacles that we can put in the way. There’s something about the bluntness of the Proverbs that peels away our excuses and gets right to the heart of the matter. In two simple verse, their author swipes aside our procrastination and calls us to action – if there’s something good you can do for someone else, seize the moment. Do it now. Don’t delay.
Lord, may today be a day of action for you.
