1 Corinthians 3:18-21 (NIVUK)
18 Do not deceive yourselves. If any of you think you are wise by the standards of this age, you should become ‘fools’ so that you may become wise. 19 For the wisdom of this world is foolishness in God’s sight. As it is written: ‘He catches the wise in their craftiness’; 20 and again, ‘The Lord knows that the thoughts of the wise are futile.’ 21 So then, no more boasting about human leaders!
As children get used to the move from primary school to secondary school about this time of year many experience the shock of the transition from being a big fish in a small bowl to a small fish in a big bowl. All of a sudden your perspectives are changed and you see the world and your place in it in a different light. God calls us to undergo a similar shift in how we measure ourselves, using not the perspectives of the world around us, but his eternal perspectives.
Lord, help me to look up and see how you see.
