1 Peter 1:1-9 NIV
Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ, To God’s elect, exiles scattered throughout the provinces of Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia and Bithynia

As I write this, early one morning, the sun is coming up and there is a small but vivid section of a rainbow in the sky – a reminder of Gods promise. In this opening sentence of his letter Peter reminds us of a great truth – we may be “exiles scattered throughout the world” – like refugees – but we are “Gods elect” – chosen by him and purchased by the blood of Jesus! What a difference that makes to our outlook, our future and our hope!

Lord God, to be loved by you is better than anything the world can offer
