Hear my prayer, Lord God Almighty;
listen to me, God of Jacob.
Look on our shield, O God;
look with favour on your anointed one.
For the Psalmist, a good life depended upon the king. A good king, God’s anointed one, who was blessed by God would shield them from trouble, bringing peace and prosperity. A bad king, however, brought nothing but trouble. This is why he prayed for God to look upon him with favour. It is good to pray for those who have the responsibility of authority in our country and indeed around the world.
Of course, for us, our true King and shield, the anointed one, is Jesus. God the Father has looked upon him with favour, the resurrection was his declaration of that. In him we have the promise of peace and security in a kingdom that knows no end!
Pray for our leaders and give thanks for our King!
