Psalm 24:7-8 (NIVUK)
7 Lift up your heads, you gates;
be lifted up, you ancient doors,
that the King of glory may come in.
8 Who is this King of glory?
The Lord strong and mighty,
the Lord mighty in battle.
Open the doors! Let the King come in!
This Psalm was probably used in coronation services in Israel, cried out as the new King marched into his city. But as we read it this side of Palm Sunday, perhaps we see a different king in our imagination. Not riding on a war stallion, but on a donkey, strong and mighty, but showing this in service and self-sacrifice.
Open your gates! Let Jesus in!
