Psalm 8:3-4 NIVUK
3 When I consider your heavens,
the work of your fingers,
the moon and the stars,
which you have set in place,
4 what is mankind that you are mindful of them,
human beings that you care for them?
In his comic sci-fi novel, ‘The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy’, Douglas Adams reflects on the scale of the universe through the voice of the Guide itself,
“Space,” it says, “is big. Really big. You just won’t believe how vastly, hugely, mindbogglingly big it is. I mean, you may think it’s a long way down the road to the chemist, but that’s just peanuts to space…”
Go outside tonight when its dark and take a look. There’s a lot of it! And yet, the God who made all of this, and remember there’s a lot more of it than you can see, has called you personally by name. Isn’t that astonishing…
How can it be Lord, that you who made the stars and put distant galaxies in their place could even notice me, let alone long for a relationship with me?
