Revelation 2:10 NIVUK
…I tell you, the devil will put some of you in prison to test you, and you will suffer persecution for ten days. Be faithful, even to the point of death, and I will give you life as your victor’s crown.

I was watching a TV programme the other day where a gangster proved his loyalty, love even, of his master, by remaining silent during torture, persevering until the end. Grim scene, certainly, but it makes a point. Our love only means something, is only proved, when it is tested and shows itself to be real. It’s easy to love God when it doesn’t cost anything, but how about when more than simple lip service is wanted from us. Are we willing to continue to stand for Christ when the stakes are higher or his demands go further?

Lord, help me to grow a faith that stands firm no matter what.
