Revelation 2:4-6 NIVUK
Yet I hold this against you: you have forsaken the love you had at first. Consider how far you have fallen! Repent and do the things you did at first. If you do not repent, I will come to you and remove your lampstand from its place. But you have this in your favour: you hate the practices of the Nicolaitans, which I also hate.
There’s a danger with being diligent and sticking at something for a long time. You can forget why you’re doing it. Joy turns to drudgery and love to duty – remember the example of the Prodigal Son’s older brother. The big lesson of Ephesus is to make sure we don’t lose sight of why we do what we do – and more importantly who we do it for!
Lord, help me never swap my love for you for duty.
