To the angel of the church in Ephesus write:
These are the words of him who holds the seven stars in his right hand and walks among the seven golden lampstands.
This week we’re going to be looking at the Risen Jesus’ letter to the church at Ephesus from Revelation! This is one of seven letters Jesus instructs John to write and pass onto the church – seven is significant in the Bible, a symbolic number that means complete or perfect. These seven letters are to the whole church, and that includes us! So what about the seven stars and lampstands? The end of chapter one tells us that these are the angels of the churches and the seven churches respectively. The symbolism is hard to pin down, but it to me it points towards Jesus’ glory – he holds the angels in his hands, and his humility – he walks amongst us.
We praise you Jesus, mighty Son of God, ruler of heaven, that you don’t see us as beneath you, but walk among us. Open our eyes to you today that we might serve you.
