2 Timothy 2:3-4 NIV
Join with me in suffering, like a good soldier of Christ Jesus. [4] No one serving as a soldier gets entangled in civilian affairs, but rather tries to please his commanding officer.

Today I shall be thinking of my Grandad who fought in Burma in the Second World War. Like so many of his generation he gave up his normal life and personal desires, putting them aside to obey the orders he was given. Paul’s blunt instruction is that we too serve a commanding officer, Jesus. Like my Grandad, our lives are not our own but his, and following his commands is our primary calling.
Lord Jesus, today I shall seek to put you first in every situation.
