John 20:30-31 (NIVUK)
30 Jesus performed many other signs in the presence of his disciples, which are not recorded in this book. 31 But these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.

There is a danger that sometimes we turn reading the Bible into a daily duty or an academic exercise, but here John succinctly reminds us why we do it – through reading the Bible we are led into an encounter with Jesus through which we can enjoy life, life in all its fullness, starting today and lasting for all eternity. Why approach it as a textbook or daily chore, when it is in fact a love letter from God.

Heavenly Father, thank you for this wonderful gift that you’ve given us. Place in our hearts a desire and thirst for it!
