Today we start a new series of notes over the next three months as part of the New Testament in a Season where many of is in the church are reading through the whole of the New Testament between now and the start of Advent. If you want to explore your discoveries with others, join is on Wednesday nights at 8pm when we shall share thoughts on the week’s readings.

Matthew 1:1 NIV
This is the genealogy of Jesus the Messiah the son of David, the son of Abraham…

Jesus didn’t appear out of nowhere, he is part of a long family history reaching back through time all the way to King David and Abraham. Our faith isn’t a new invention but the fruition of Judaism and God’s plan from the start. Today’s readings may be a beginning for us, but they are the culmination of a long journey which has shaped then and gives them meaning.

Father, thank you that you have a plan for your world. Help me to see my place on that story and to live it out to your glory!
