Romans 1:16 NIV
For I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God that brings salvation to everyone who believes: first to the Jew, then to the Gentile.
Yesterday’s talk of battles and victory from which the term ‘gospel’ comes is the language of victors and losers, the powerful and the weak, oppressors and oppressed, but in God’s hand this language is subverted. Unlike our natural tendency towards division and suspicion, God’s inclination is towards inclusion and reconciliation. This victory is for all, good news for any who would respond.
Lord we should be ashamed not of your gospel, but of our divisions. Forgive our suspicion and fear of others and help us in your strength to be reconciled to you and each other.
