14 Then he went up and touched the bier they were carrying him on, and the bearers stood still. He said, ‘Young man, I say to you, get up!’ 15 The dead man sat up and began to talk, and Jesus gave him back to his mother. (Luke 7:14-15)
Yesterday we saw Jesus’ feeling for the widow of Nain as she accompanied the body of her dead son to his funeral. Feeling sorry for someone, however, isn’t the same as compassion. True compassion is an emotion that drives us to act, as Jesus miraculously shows here as he brings him back to life. Think of the people you might meet today and the situations they are in. What can you do to show such active compassion rather than just pity?
Lord guide me by your Spirit today that I might be aware of the needs of others and quick to help.
