Please remember Youth Conference in your prayers this weekend, for fun and a chance to get to know God better together. Please also remember Ben as he leads the sessions and preaches on Sunday. Thanks!
Reading: Joshua 5:2
At that time the Lord said to Joshua, ‘Make flint knives and circumcise the Israelites again.’
Thought: Circumcision was the sign of the Covenant, the special relationship between God and his People. By being circumcised they were saying that they trusted God and were committed to following him – it was an external symbol pointing to the attitude of their hearts. God may not be looking for us to be circumcised today, but he does still look for us to be wholeheartedly committed to following him, a circumcision of the heart.
Prayer: The Methodist Covenant Prayer – can we say this and truly mean it?
‘I am no longer my own but yours.
Put me to what you will,
rank me with whom you will;
put me to doing,
put me to suffering;
let me be employed for you,
or laid aside for you,
exalted for you,
or brought low for you;
let me be full,
let me be empty,
let me have all things,
let me have nothing:
I freely and wholeheartedly yield all things
to your pleasure and disposal.
And now, glorious and blessed God,
Father, Son and Holy Spirit,
you are mine and I am yours. So be it.
And the covenant now made on earth, let it be ratified in heaven.’
