Reading: Romans 8:18-21
18 I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us. 19 For the creation waits in eager expectation for the children of God to be revealed. 20 For the creation was subjected to frustration, not by its own choice, but by the will of the one who subjected it, in hope 21 that the creation itself will be liberated from its bondage to decay and brought into the freedom and glory of the children of God.

Thought: So far this week we’ve thought about the burdens we carry that God wants to lighten. To finish we’re thinking about the lightness of our tread. In Genesis 1:28 we were instructed to subdue the earth, to be good stewards of it, but just as we’ve spoilt our relationship with God and each other, through our abuse of it we’ve spoilt our relationship with the planet we live on too. The good news of the Bible story is that God wants to make all things new, to fix all this! Accordingly, let’s think how we can tread lightly and care for the world he has given us to live in, rather than spoil it any further.

Prayer: Thank you that you have freed us to focus on love rather than destruction. Teach me to tread lightly rather than to pollute.
