This week we’re looking at the theme ‘Travelling Light’ (the theme of this year’s Greenbelt – see Ben’s newsletter article)

Reading: Matthew 11:28-30
28 “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”

Thought: What does Jesus mean when he talks about his yoke? It’s more than just a farming allusion. According to the American Pastor Rob Bellrabbis had different interpretations [of Scripture], different commands they stressed-some focused on the poor, others on personal piety, others on proper worship. A rabbi’s particular set of interpretations were called that rabbi’s yoke.’ Jesus, however, hasn’t come to burden us with rules and regulations. He still has work for us to do – and that work can indeed be demanding – but it is simple and focused, to love.

Prayer: Thank you that you have freed us to focus on love rather than rules. Teach me to love.
