This week we step out from Mark with a series of readings preparing us for Easter Week
Reading: Matthew 3:1-3,11-12 NIV
In those days John the Baptist came, preaching in the wilderness of Judea and saying, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven has come near.” This is he who was spoken of through the prophet Isaiah:
“A voice of one calling in the wilderness, ‘Prepare the way for the Lord, make straight paths for him.’ ” ……………… “I baptise you with water for repentance. But after me comes one who is more powerful than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. He will baptise you with the Holy Spirit and fire. His winnowing fork is in his hand, and he will clear his threshing floor, gathering his wheat into the barn and burning up the chaff with unquenchable fire.”
Thought: Prepare…… This week we start a journey towards Easter with a look at some of the promises of the coming king and how God is reaching out to the world that he loves. It is a wonderful thing that Gods promise and display of love is not just to “the world” but also to individuals like you and me!
Prayer: Lord, help us to hear your voice and be moved afresh as we consider your work of salvation.
